A design experiment

What makes us creative? How do you constantly develop fresh creative ideas, year after year? Do you slip into patterns that make you less creative, relying on solutions that you know have worked in the past? And if so, what can you do to become more creative?

This design experiment – a personal, side project – was designed to explore what makes us creative. I designed a poster a day, for 100 days, each one on a different jazz artist. It was not about creating perfect posters. All the posters shown are what were produced on the day. Sometimes I had a few hours, sometimes half an hour. Some of them work well, many of them don’t.

Together with some background information on each jazz artist, I’ve provided some thoughts on my design process, written on the day and where available some of the early sketches or rejected ideas. Posters from day 1 to 40 are here.

You can read more about my experiment here.
